Senate Elections party position: Opposition coalition dominates

ISLAMABAD: The Opposition coalition dominates in Senate Elections party position with 53 seats followed by the Govt coalition bagging 47 seats.

A new party position has emerged after the completion of senate elections 2021 in the capital and the provinces.

New statistics and political analysts are predicting the possibility of a big upset in the election of the chairman of the Senate.

Senate Elections Party Position

According to the new party position in the upper house, the opposition coalition has has upper hand with 53 members in the Senate, while the ruling coalition has a total of 47 members in the senate.

PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has emerged as the largest party in upper house of the parliament after the completion of the results of the Senate elections.

Ruling party (PTI) topped the list with 26 seats in senate now, followed by PPP, PML-N and Balochistan Awami Party.

Opposition Coalition Strength

The opposition coalition (PDM) consists of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazal (JUIF), Awami National Party (ANP), Balochistan National Party Mengal, Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and others.

  • Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has 20 seats in senate.
  • Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has 18 seats in senate.
  • Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazal (JUIF) has 5 seats in senate.
  • National Party (NP) has 2 seats in senate.
  • Awami National Party (ANP) has 2 seats in senate.
  • BNP Mengal has 1 seat in senate.
  • Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PKMP) has 2 seats in senate.
  • Independents have 2 seats in senate.

Ruling Party Strength

The Ruling coalition consists of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Muthida Qomi Movement (MQM), Grand Democratic Allaince (GDA), and Pakistan Muslim League Quad e Azam (PMLQ).

  • PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) has 26 seats in senate.
  • Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has 12 seats in senate.
  • Muthida Qomi Movement (MQM) has 3 seats in senate.
  • PMLQ has 1 seat in senate.
  • PMLF (GDA) has 1 seat in senate.

On the other hand, the total number of parties in the 100-member upper house of parliament has increased to 13 now.

Senate Election 2021

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won 18 new seats in the senate, bringing its total to 26.
PTI won 10 seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5 from Punjab, 2 from Sindh and one from Islamabad.

The PPP won 8 new seats in the Senate, Sindh won 7 seats and Islamabad won 1 seat, making it the second largest party in the upper house with 20 seats.

PML-N won 5 seats from Punjab, becoming the third largest party in the Senate with 18 seats.

Balochistan Awami Party won 6 new seats and became the fourth largest party in the upper house with 12 seats.

In addition, with the addition of 2 new independent members in the Senate, their total number has increased to 6.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam won 2 seats from Balochistan and 1 seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and with three new seats in the Senate, the number of JUI members increased to 5.
