Ordinance for Extension of Chairman NAB on tomorrow

ISLAMABAD:  Extension of Chairman NAB: Ordinance is likely to be promulgated tomorrow.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that the ordinance regarding Extension of Chairman NAB has been completed which will be brought on Wednesday.

During a media briefing after the cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Fawad Chaudhry said that the political, economic, and social situation of the country was discussed in the meeting.

Cabinet’s Decisions on Pandora Papers:

Fawad Chaudhry said that the Cabinet was also briefed on the issue of Pandora Papers. He said:

  • The Pandora Papers include the names of more than 700 Pakistanis.
  • Those whose names appear in the Pandora Papers are divided into three categories.
  • The first, category is that of an offshore company established legally.
  • The second category is those who set up companies and do money laundering.
  • The third category is the one that did not show offshore companies.
  • A Prime Minister’s Inspection Cell will be set up on Pandora Papers.
  • This cell will examine whose offshore company is legal and whose is illegal.

Extension of Chairman NAB:

Regarding the extension of Chairman NAB, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said:

  • Chairman NAB Ordinance has been completed, this ordinance will be brought on Wednesday.
  • The opposition does not have a “Leader of the Opposition” who is free from corruption.
  • Shahbaz Sharif himself is an accused of NAB. The next chairman of NAB cannot be appointed by consulting with him.
  • The opposition should change its leader so that the consultation takes place.

Issues of Elections and Census:

Discussing the issues of elections and census, the Federal Minister said:

  • Modern technology will be used for conducting the census and assistance will be sought from NADRA.
  • There will be new constituencies after the census is completed.
  • We want the next elections to be free, fair, and transparent.
  • Bt the opposition is not responding effectively to the electoral reform proposals.
  • The opposition should play a role in Parliament instead of crying in meetings.
  • If the opposition does not like the government’s electoral reforms, then bring your own.

Fawad Chaudhry said that in order to save gas, the federal cabinet has approved a seasonal package of electricity.

“We have an abundance of electricity, we want to increase sales of electricity,” he said.

The Information Minister further said that electricity would be made cheaper by Rs. 7 per unit to the consumers who use less gas.

He said that a three-member committee would review the electricity prices.
