LAHORE: The government decides to remove Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervez Elahi.

The government has decided in principle to remove Speaker of Punjab Assembly Pervez Elahi.

According to sources, a consultative meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz Sharif at the party secretariat in Model Town in which discussions were held regarding the presentation of the budget today.

Legal experts were also consulted on the possibility of blocking the budget by the opposition. It was decided in the meeting that IG Punjab and Chief Secretary would not be presented in the assembly even today.

no-confidence motion against PTI

The League ministers said that they wanted to disgrace the Chief Secretary and the IG by calling them. This is what happened in the Model Town case.

It was decided in the meeting that Pervez Elahi should be removed and after winning the by-election on July 17 and fulfilling the required MPAs, the speaker should be sent home and a new speaker should be brought.

Meanwhile, the opposition has also insisted on presenting the IG and Chief Secretary Punjab in the House and apologizing.

Yesterday, the PML-N members in the Punjab Assembly Advisory Committee had assured the opposition that the Chief Secretary and the IG would be called for a briefing.

But then the government decided not to call the IG and the chief secretary to save the morale of the police and bureaucracy from going down.

The situation is complicated because if the budget is not passed within the stipulated time, it will be difficult for the government to run its affairs in the next financial year.

Earlier, the Punjab government had formulated a budget approval strategy instead of a no-confidence motion against Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, which seems to have failed.

The Punjab Assembly is scheduled to convene today at one o’clock under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, in which Finance Minister Sardar Owais Leghari will present the budget for the next financial year.
