A silicon multiplexer chip has been developed for the 6G

Adelaide: It is great news for technology lovers that a silicon multiplexer chip has been developed by scientists for the 6G.

While “5G” mobile service has been launched in only a few countries of the world, experts are gearing up to take communication technology to “6G” and beyond.

Scientists from Japan and Australia are now conducting joint research to create a multiplexer chip for “6G” communication, which is made entirely of pure silicon.

In simply put, if data communication is possible at a speed of 20 gigabits per second through 5G, then the expected speed of a 6G connection will be possible at a speed 50 times higher than one terabit (1000 gigabits) per second.

Importance of Silicon Multiplexer Chip

The “Silicon Multiplexer Chip” is especially important in data communication because it facilitates high-speed data transfer by distributing signals very quickly and combining them together in an orderly manner.

This joint study has been published online in the latest issue of the research journal Optica by experts from:

  • The Osaka University Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Japan
  • The University of Adelaide School of Electrical Engineering, Australia

According to the research paper, this prototype of the next generation multiplexer performs data communication in the 300 GHz band in the terahertz range.

Due to its merits, this multiplexer is also very short, which will play an important role in making “6G” and even the next generation of data communication a reality.

How Does Multiplexer Work?

The chip uses “optical tunneling” to ensure exceptionally fast data communication or data transfer.

With its simple design, this four-channel multiplexer can transfer data at a speed of 48 gigabits per second, which is enough for streaming heavy video of “8K” quality.

Why We Need Multiplexer

The experts who made this chip believe that in the future, the IoT (Internet of Things) will have spread all over the world, due to which thousands of times more data will have been transferring here and there than today.

That will be the time when 5G technology will start to become inadequate and we will need even faster data communication.

These multiplexer chips and other devices of this type, which are currently in the experimental phase, will be of use to us in meeting the needs of the time.
